This summer we visited the beautiful Emilia Romagna region of Italy, we have always wanted to visit this part of Italy and have been fascinated by the history of Bologna and Venice. We flew in to Bologna and spent a week in a beautiful villa in a small village of Stanco di Sopra situated in the hills about 40minutes from the city. This was the perfect base to explore the beautiful countryside and rich history of the region which is a photographers dream. Our villa was one of a collection of stone buildings on a development called 6stanco - the main house on site dates back to the 1600s. Our host Ruth, who lives in the main house, was absolutely fantastic and her warm welcome really set the tone for a fantastic holiday. We met great families who were staying in the adjacent buildings and our daughters made great friends, playing in the pool long into the evening.

I would highly recommend our accommodation, for more information -

Our visit to Venice was a highlight and I would love to go back one day, its just so unique, I'd love to see it in winter. The gondola ride lived up to expectation as did the beautiful architecture - theres just so much to see and do.

All in all it was a great relaxing holiday full of good company, excellent food and memories which will last forever!
